Norma Jean Speakman (Nana) is a character in The Royle Family. &nbsp

History & Personality

Norma was born in 1916 and married her husband most likely in the 30's. She had Barbara in the 40's and is the Mother In-Law of Jim. He has never liked her and always takes the piss out of her when she is not present and sometimes present. Nana is a loudmouth person and usually shouts out and makes everyone jump. She get's very annoying if she repeats questions to other people on the sofa who probably heard her before.

She usually talks about her bowels and how it doesn't work right. She is regulary in the Royles toilet trying. She has a mysterious handbag that Jim has always wanted to have a look in. The family is amazed by how much she can fit in it. During Series 3 when Anthony is going to London and she is looking for her purse, she manages to fork out an Orange, a TV remote, a torch, a pair of pliers, a stapler and a Club chocolate bar in one small black handbag.

She is not so keen on Jim herself but when she is on her deathbed in the deleted scenes of The Queen of Sheba she knows that Jim loves her and she loves him too.

She is known as Nana by her grandchildren and Dave. She is called Mam by her Daughter Barbara. When she is introduced to other people she is introduced as Nana and the person usually says "Hello Nana!"

Appearance

She is usually wearing some sort of flowery blouse or a cardigan. She has a large batch of grey hair on her head but it goes white in The Queen of Sheba.

Death

Norma died in 2006 after seeing her second Great-Grandchild. She was aged 90.
